Adding special characters to website pages

If you don’t have them on your keyboard.

Sometimes you may need to add special characters like ™, ©, ®, °, ± to your text. How do you do it if you do not have them on a keyboard?

Method 1. Copy from the table in this article

Method 2. Use a character table program on your computer

Most operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, and Linux, have a built-in character table program. Use it to find and copy required characters for your texts.

Method 3. Use keyboard shortcuts

Various operating systems offer users their own ways of typing special characters. For instance, on a Windows computer, to type a → arrow, you need to а) press and hold the left Alt key, b) type the number 26 on the keyboard’s numpad, c) release the Alt key. This way you can quickly type a variety of special characters provided that you know their numeric codes.

Windows 10+

As of Windows version 10 you can also open a pop-up window with a list of special characters and emoji via keyboard shortcut Win + . (period).
