Contact segments in CRM

A segment is a contact list that can be used for some marketing purposes. For instance, for sending bulk emails with Mailer app.

There are two types of segments:

  • static
  • dynamic

Static segments must be filled with contacts manually—you simply pick individual contacts and add them to a segment.

Dynamic segments are filled automatically—you set up certain rules for a segment and the segment is filled by contacts matching those rules.

How to add a static contact segment

  1. Click the New segment link.
  2. Select the Static list mode.
  3. Enter any name that will help you see what kind of contacts are contained in this segment.
  4. Select an icon to quickly find this segment among others.
  5. Select who must have access to the segment—either only you or all CRM users.
  6. Click the Create button.
  7. Add contacts to the segment:
    • use the search field in the pop-up dialog that will appear right after you have created a new segment,
    • use menu item Actions → Add contacts to segment on the segment-viewing page,
    • use Add to segments link in the contact profile,
    • use the Add to segments action in various contact lists after selecting the desired contacts with check marks.

How to add a dynamic contact segment

Method 1

  1. Click the New segment link.
  2. Select the Dynamic filter mode.
  3. Enter any name that will help you see what kind of contacts are contained in this segment.
  4. Select an icon to quickly find this segment among others.
  5. Select who must have access to the segment—either only you or all CRM users.
  6. Click the Create button.
  7. On the next page, set up contacts selection rules for this segment:
    1. Click on field names on the left to add more fields to the contact search form.
    2. Enter or select the desired values in the added fields.
    3. Click the Change filter conditions button.

Method 2

  1. Click the Advanced contact search button.
  2. Select contacts selection rules for this segment:

    1. Click on field names on the left to add more fields to the contact search form.
    2. Enter or select the desired values in the added fields.
    3. Click the Find button.
  3. Click the Save as filter link.
  4. Enter any name that will help you see what kind of contacts are contained in this segment.
  5. Select an icon to quickly find this segment among others.
  6. Select who must have access to the segment—either only you or all CRM users.
  7. Click the Create button.
